Is Waiheke Island worth a trip?

Yes. Waiheke is known as New Zealand's island of wine, with around 30 boutique vineyards, white-sand beaches and some of the best food in the country. It's about 40 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland, which makes it one of the easiest and most rewarding day trips you can take.

How many hours do you need on Waiheke Island?

A full day is ideal. Our tours run seven to eight hours, which leaves time for three vineyards, a long lunch and a few viewpoints without rushing. You're welcome to stay on afterwards and enjoy the sunset.

What can you do on Waiheke in one day?

Accepted Answer

A typical day includes a morning ferry from Auckland, tastings at two or three vineyards, a long lunch with views, and a stop at a beach or lookout before heading back. On our tours we take care of the planning, so you can relax and enjoy it.

When is the best time to visit Waiheke Island?

Waiheke is lovely all year. Spring, from September to November, is a beautiful time to visit, with fresh green vines, blossoms and quieter vineyards before the summer rush. Summer, from December to February, is the busiest and warmest season. Autumn, from March to May, is harvest season, with mild weather and golden colours.

What is Waiheke Island wine known for?

Waiheke is best known for Bordeaux-style reds, Syrah and Chardonnay, grown in the island's warm, dry microclimate. You'll also find excellent rosé, sparkling wine and olive oil. On our tours you'll taste a range of styles from small boutique producers.

Do I need to tip?

Accepted Answer

Tipping isn't expected in New Zealand, as prices already include GST and staff are paid fairly. If you've had a wonderful day, a tip is always appreciated but never required.

How do I get to Waiheke Island from Auckland?

Accepted Answer

Take the ferry with Fullers or Island Direct from the Auckland Ferry Terminal to Matiatia Wharf. Please catch the 9:00am ferry on the day of your tour. SeaLink also runs vehicle and passenger ferries from Wynyard Wharf and Half Moon Bay to Kennedy Point.

The ferry from downtown Auckland to Matiatia Wharf takes about 40 minutes.

Is the ferry included?

Accepted Answer

Ferry fares aren't included, and guests arrange their own ferry travel. Please allow plenty of time, as we can't refund tours missed because of a late ferry.

Your guide will meet you at Matiatia Wharf, holding a welcome board with your name.

Which tour is right for me?

Choose the La Dolce Waiheke Tour for a relaxed day of wine and Italian hospitality in a small group. Choose the Private Tour if you'd like the day just for your group, with an itinerary built around you. For a special occasion, the Michelin Star Experience adds a fine-dining lunch at Mudbrick or Tantalus Estate.

How much does a Waiheke wine tour cost?

The La Dolce Waiheke Tour is NZ$350 per person. The Private Tour is NZ$500 per person (minimum two guests), and the Michelin Star Experience is NZ$650 per person. All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST.

What's included in the tour?

Accepted Answer

Luxury transport, a friendly local guide, three wine tastings, a surprise treat and your return to Matiatia Wharf. Ferry fares, lunches and optional activity fees aren't included, except on the Michelin Star Experience, which includes a fine-dining lunch.

How many people are on a tour?

A maximum of six guests, so every tour feels relaxed and personal. For a day just for your group, book our Private Tour.

Guests must be 18 or older to join our wine tours. Photo ID may be needed at venues serving alcohol.

What if it rains?

Accepted Answer

Tours run rain or shine. If ferries are cancelled because of severe weather, we'll offer you a rebooking or a full refund.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Cancel more than 7 days before your tour for a full refund, minus any admin or payment fees. Between 7 days and 48 hours before, we refund 50%. Within 48 hours, and for no-shows or late arrivals, we can't offer a refund.

Do you offer private events, cooking classes or corporate days?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Through Cucina, we host cooking lessons, private dinners with our chef and multi-day retreats in private Waiheke villas for groups of 4 to 20. They're ideal for corporate events, team days and celebrations.
